GREEN business? Sustainable, what?!!?
We’ve heard these buzz words all over the place. We’ve heard them say that our rivers are drying up, the ice caps are melting, and temperature gets higher and higher. We can debate the science until we’re blue in the face, but how can we argue common sense?
Here in South Florida, we are currently in a serious drought. Our water reserves are the lowest they have ever been. So weâre doing our part to conserve water and energy, and jumped on the proverbial bandwagon. Hereâs what weâre up to:
1.) Reduce our water needs by asking our guests to re-use their towels and bed linens during their stay.
2.) Eliminate harmful chemicals by using Green Seal certified cleaning products that are safe for the environment and safe for our housekeeping team.
3.) Minimize our impact on landfills by using EcoSoft⢠tissues, toilet paper and paper towels. These 100% recycled products were produced with methods less harmful to the environment and exceeds EPA guidelines for post-consumer wastepaper content.
4.) Save energy by switching all bulbs from the standard incandescent to the Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) bulbs. Utilizing CFLs will generate approximately 75% less energy than their standard counterpart.
5.) Improve our guest experience by providing Pro-terra® natural bath products: Vanilla Bean bath bar, Milk & Honey facial soap, and Juniper shampoo and conditioner. Pro Terra for our guests and for our environment.
6.) Create a demand for organic and natural foods by making an irresistible breakfast. Eating organically and naturally is not only great for our bodies, but great for our farmers, too. Breakfast is available at the Old Town Manor for an additional $5/person.
Most of these practices will not only conserve our resources, but we can potentially save money. These savings can be passed back to our guests, resulting in a lesser room rate. How can anyone argue with that?
